Look for a red-orange color. Copper is red-orange, not silver or gold. True copper absorbs blue-green light, which creates a distinct, red-orange hue. Hold your bottle up to the light—if it doesn't look red-orange, then there's a good chance that it isn't copper.

Refining Platinum Ore

Make a Saturated Copper Sulfate Solution

Stir copper sulfate into very hot water until no more will dissolve. You can just pour the solution into a jar and wait a few days for crystals to grow, but if you grow a seed crystal, you can get much larger and better-shaped crystals.

The preparation of high-purity copper through electrolytic refining has been investigated extensively.
